I, Richard Smith of L [Lunenburg] and Parish of Cumberland, being very sick and weak of body --

Firstly, my just debts and funeral charges are to be paid.  To my son Abraham Smith the plantation whereon he know lives, about 300 [acres], lying in Dinwiddie County, and 1 negro man slave named Peter, in consideration of a sum of money he has paid to Mr. Boaing, Merchant of London. 

To my wife - the use of my plantation, during her life, and after her death, to be divided between my 2 sons, Peter and Banjmon as follows: 

To my son Peter Smith - all the land below the Spring Branch and joining Repps Jones, about 200 acres. 

To my son Benjmon Smith - the rest of said tract lying above the said Spring, and joining Mr. Charles Jennons line on the Sutherly Branch, and down the said Branch to the River, and down the said River to the beginning, about 200 [acres]. 

To my daughter Joane Croes - 1 Negro girl slave named Moll. 

To my daughter Agnest May - 1 Negro girl slave named Haner. 

To my son Richard Smith - 2 Negro slaves named Isack and Adam. 

To my daughter Ann Hightower - 3 ewes.  To my daughter Temperance Booth - 1 feather bed and 2 cows and calves. 

To my daughter Sarah Mayes - 2 cows and calves. 

To my daughter Martha March - 1 cow and calf.  To my daughter Mary Booth - 1 silver spoon. 

To my daughter Ann Smith - 1 feather bed. 

To my daughter Lucy Smith - 1feather bed.  To my wife Agnes Smith - the use of the rest of my estate, both real and personal, during her natural life. 

To my son Peter Smith - after his mother's death - 1 Negro man slave named Boatswain. 

To my son Benjamin Smith - 1 Negro fellow called Cuggo, and 1 Negro girl named Janne. 

To my sons Peter and Benjamin - after my wife's death, the rest of my personal estate to be equally divided between them.  To my wife Agnes - 2 Negro slaves, Peg, Nan, Hanah, daughter of the said Nan. 

Executors - my brother Abram Cocke and my sons Abram Smith and Peter Smith. Signed Jul 6, 1757 -

At Feb 5, 1760 Court, the within will of the deceased was exhibited by Peter Smith, one of the executors, and the same was proved by oaths, 2 of the witnesses, and ordered to be recorded.  And on the motion of the said executor, certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate of said will, whereupon he, together with Gray Briggs, Gent, his security, entered into their bond, reserving liberty for Abraham Cocke and Abraham Smith, the other executor, to take upon themselves the execution of said will, when they shall

think fit.
