Madison County
Personally appeared before me Wm. P BOND Judge of the 14th Judicial Circuit of
the state of Tennessee presiding in court at Jackson for the County and State
aforesaid, & which said court is one of record. James W.Lewis administrator. Of
the estate of Sarah Mays deceased late a resident of said County who being first
duly sworn declares that said Sarah Mays, who was an applicant in her life time
for restoration Act the roll of Pensions of the United States, died intestate in
said county in the 19th January 1868 that affiant qualified as her administrator
in the County Court of Madison County at the March Term 1869 there fore gave
bond & letter of administration duly granted him copies of which have heretofore
accompanied his former application on this case.
Affiant now further on oath states that said widow Sarah Mays died leaving (8)
Eight distributive portions of her estate to be inherited by children and grand
children whose place of domicile & status are herein after set forth as
accurately as affiant is able to do from the information & knowledge he has of
the family.
1st her Son Abraham Mays resides in Decatur County Tennessee & was an affiant
has been confirmed a consistent Union man through out the late rebellion.
2nd Her son William Mays resides in Madison Co. Tennessee & was also a
consistent Union man during the war and gave no aid nor assistance to the rebel
cause.
3rd Mrs. Ruth Ward a widowed daughter of Mrs. S. Mays lives in Perry County
Tennessee and her sons who were then old enough were in the Federal Army as
soldiers during the war.
4th The children of Thomas Mays a son of Mrs. S. Mays resides in Scott Co
Arkansas: Several of the - who were old enough, affiant learners, were in the
Federal service as soldiers during the war.
5th Judy Hix a daughter of Sarah Mays: Her husband died before the war she is
now dead has left several small children, & one is this ----- ---: weather any
of these were engaged in the war, affiant does not know-they reside in Obion Co.

6th Rev Basdil Brown & wife Mary- a daughter of Mrs. Mays: Mr. Brown resides in
Giles Go. Tennessee & took no part in the war & is a minister of the Gospel
7th David Mays a son, died in 1862 in Madison Co: Several left 3 very small
children and one of them of age: one or both of these were soldiers in the
confederate services. Some reside in Madison Co. & some have removed to Ark.
8th JW Brown wife Milly, a daughter of Mrs. Mays resides in Texas: he is an
elderly man & took no part in the war far as affiant can learn.

Almight God that I will hence forth faithfully protect and defend the
commonwealth of the United States, & the Union of the States hence forth .That I
will in like moreover abide and faithfully support all laws a etc:
