            Personally appeared before me Thos. J. Johnson, Clerk of the County Court of said County, Joshua M. Treese, Jerial D. Mays and Caroline Mays with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged the Execution of the above Deed for the purposes therein contained upon the 7th of February 1848, the private examination of Caroline Mase being taken according to act of assembly.

            This Indenture made this the Eighteenth day of September A.D. one thousand eight hundred and forty seven, between Joshua M. Trease, Jerriel D. Mays and Caroline Mays, his wife, formerly Caroline Treas, all of the County of Claiborne and State of Tennessee of the one part, and Greenberry Cloud of the County and State aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth that the said Joshua M. Trease, Jerriel D. Mays and Caroline Mays for and in consideration of the some (sic) of four hundred dollars to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath and by these presants doth hereby bargain sell alien enfeoff convey and confirm unto the said Greenberry Cloud and to his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Claiborne and State of Tenn, Waters of Powells River at the head of the middle fork of the Lonesome Valey being part of the tract of land on which Sam’l Cloud formerly lived - where the said Joshua M. Trease now lives - Beginning on two pines near the top of the ridge in what was formerly Edward Ashley’s line, thence south seventy degrees west to a poplar marked H, thence on a conditional line formerly made between John Casey and James Casey, north westwardly to Jacob Cloud’s corner in said line thence on sd. Jacob Cloud’s line to Daren Cardwell’s line, thence on said Cardwell’s line southerly to the beginning, containing one hundred acres be the same more or less, to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land to the said Greenberry Cloud and to his heirs and assigns forever as an indefeasible inheritance in fee simple, and the said Joshua M. Trease, Jerriel D. Mays and Caroline Mays for themselves and their heirs doth covenant to and with the said Greenberry Cloud that they will forever, warrent and defend the rigt and title to said described tract of land against the lawful title claim or deamnd of all and every person or persons whatever. In testimony whareof the said Joshua M. Trease, Jerriel D. Mays and Caroline Mays hath hereunto set our hands and seals the day and year first above written.
