Deed, William Mays to Lindsey Coleman

(This first tract of land was originally bought by William Mays from John Ownsby Jr.
on 25 Feb. 1769 for 30 pds., the second tract on 7 Jun 1779 for 37 pds. 10 from Valentine Cox and
John Swanson)

This Indenture made the first day of October in the year of our Lord 1787 between William Mays of the County of Amherst of the one part and Lindsey Coleman of the said county of the other part ~ Witnessseth that the said William Mays for and in consideration of the sum of 50 pounds current money to him in hand paid by the said Lindsey Coleman the receipt which of he the said William Mays doth hereby acknowledge, have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain sell and confirm unto the said Lindsey Coleman and his heirs forever two certain tracts or parcels of Land Lying and being in the county of Amherst on the north Branches of Buffalo River, the first containing 178 acres and bounded as followeth: Beginning at James Williamson's corner poplar and running thence with his Lines S 5 W 41 poles to a chesnut and S 23 W 120 poles to a pointer corner to Jonathan Johnson and with his Lines due East 60 poles to a Spanish Oak and S 6 E 60 poles to pointers in Carter Braxton's Line and with it N 20 E 236 poles to pointers corner to David Bly and with his line N 75 W 30 poles to a Spanish Oak and S 00 W 34 poles to pointers corner to Martin Trap the same course continued on his line 5 degrees to pointers S 19 W 30 poles to a red oak and N 02 W 60 poles to the first station. The other tract containing 50 acres and bounded as followeth: Beginning at a Red Oak near the top of Turkey Mountain corner to John Swanson thence new lines S 33 W o2 poles to a chestnut oak S 21 W 44 poles to pointers and S 3 E 25 poles to pointers in his own line and with them S 02 E 52 poles to a red oak N 19 E 30 poles to pointers and N 00 E 57 poles to pointers corner to Sim Banks and with his lines N 24 W 27 poles to the first station. Together with all their appurtenance To have and to hold the same two tracts or parcels of Land with all their appurtenances to the said Lindsey Coleman and his heirs forever and the said William Mays doth covenant and agree with the said Lindsey Coleman that he the said tracts or parcels of Land with all their appurtenances unto the said Lindsey Coleman and his heirs and assigns against all persons whatsoever will warrant and forever defend by these presents in witness whereof the said William Mays have here unto set his name and seal the day and year first above written.

At a Court held for Amherst County the first Day of October 1787 William Mays acknowledged this Deed indented to be his act and Deed and ordered to be Recorded, previous to which Sarah, the Wife of said William Mays, personally appeared in court and being first privily examined Relinquished her Right of Dower in the Estate conveyed by this Deed and Ordered to be recorded.
